The Microwall VPN outsources sensitive components or subnetworks to a separate island network and thus separates this from the higher-level company intranet. A WireGuard VPN server is available for remote maintenance, remote support, etc., which allows selected VPN clients secure and protected access to the island participants via their own firewall.
All connections between the networks must be explicitly approved via rules based on the source / destination IP and the TCP / UDP port numbers used. Communication of undocumented and / or unwanted services is prevented and harmful events such as overload are kept away from the island.
Filter rules and VPN management
The firewall rules and VPN management are managed simply and clearly on the Microwall VPN website and are whitelist-based throughout. Any communication that is not expressly approved in the form of a rule is blocked.
NAT router mode
Similar to a classic DSL Internet connection, the entire island network is integrated into the local network via only one IP address on the intranet side. An intervention in the routing concept of the intranet is not necessary. The operation of several island networks with the same IP ranges is also possible in this operating mode. This gives machine and system manufacturers the opportunity to operate internal networks with a uniform serial IP configuration - no complex adjustments to the customer infrastructure are required.
Standard router mode
The Microwall VPN works as a classic router and the island network is made known, for example, in the form of static routes on the intranet.
WireGuard VPN
The Microwall VPN uses the WireGuard platform as a VPN solution for remote access to the island network. Compared to other VPN solutions, this offers high data throughput and simple management with a high level of security and stability. Selected WireGuard clients (Windows, Linux, MacOS, IOS, Android) can be granted firewall-protected access to participants on the safe island.
