The USB servers from W&T not only integrate USB devices easily and reliably into your IT or OT network. Now they also have security features that reliably protect data traffic without much effort.
A stationary thermal imager is needed for thermal inspection of parts in a series production system. The camera model used here uses a USB port as the communications interface, so that a solution for the following customer requirements had to be found:
The BOS hand-portable radios from Sepura used by the Wuppertal fire department are fitted once or twice a year with new code plugs for the keypad assignments, group associations etc. For this purpose the devices and associated charging/programming stations are equipped with either an RS232 or USB interface depending on the model. To operate USB devices remotely from the host PC, the limits of functionality and USB specifications are reached after just a few meters. In many applications from automation, medical technology or logistics there is often a need to operate the USB device remotely from the linking PC. The required distances are virtually unlimited, ranging from simple room-to-room communication to global connections.
Software manufacturers often use hardware dongles as licensing/copy protection, where they are expected for operating the respective program on a local USB port of the PC. License-conformal, alternating operation of the protected programs on multiple workstations requires carrying the dongles back and forth or even sending them between the workstations.
