The network specialist Wiesemann & Theis is expanding its Web-IO range with the SIP Ring Switch, a switching module for Voice-over-IP networks.

Voice-over-IP access is now replacing analogue telephone connections. This means that telephony and network technology have merged, so to speak. Even full-fledged private branch exchanges are no longer room-filling, but run on normal PCs and even on embedded systems such as the Raspberry Pi. This is made possible by software packages such as the open source project Asterisk and the SIP protocol (Session Initiation Protocol).
